Notre patrimoine bâti et naturel dilapidé!
A threat hangs over the green belt.
Our built and natural heritage dilapidated!
(Châteauguay, August 8, 2018) – After attacking the Albert-Einstein Forest, then having brought back the development of the Lang orchard, the municipal council led by Pierre-Paul Routhier now attacks the part of the green belt with rezoning. The elected representatives of Châteauguay have indeed approved a first zoning change affecting the conservation of a first section of the Green Belt.
« This municipal council is squandering our built and natural collective heritage. As a citizen we must be vigilant! The law gives us the tools to make our voice heard! « , Says Nathalie Simon, leader of the Citizens Action-Citizens’Action party.
In addition to these zoning changes that will lead to the destruction of our ecosystems that are rare islands of natural freshness, the city council also takes away our collective built heritage. The ruins of the Blaise-Marchand House will disappear from Laberge Park rather than being incorporated into the new landscaping. As for the Moise-Prégent House, a structuring element of the Old Village, it has just been put open for sale.
Some zoning changes, including the one on the Green Belt, will be subject to public consultation on August 15 at 7:00 pm in the City Council Hall.
